Dual Citizenship — Heaven and Earth

“My place is placeless, my trace is traceless, no body, no soul, I live the two worlds as one."

~Rumi

Something has become clear to me: We are made for heaven—that’s why the earth cannot satisfy us. Over time, my meditation practice has taught me this. Through silence, I have become a dual citizen. Heaven and earth are both my home. I have reaped the benefits of both lands. I’m free to travel back and forth with no lines, no distractions... just a constant green light.

I rise up on command. Like a Sufi dancer, I hold one hand toward heaven, the other to the earth, carrying love by the bucket back to anyone and everyone I come in contact with. I pierced the veil and realized heaven was always there. A home within a home in my soul. All I did was bring in the light so I’d no longer live in darkness. And in my solitude, I am always with God; a sort of “double belonging.”

I pierced the veil and realized heaven was always there. A home within a home in my soul.

Stars have become my friends and the universe my constant companion. When we cruise down this road, choices that once challenged us become a distant memory. We are not held down by or with the problems of this world. The mind of God takes over and, well, we just become ecstatic passengers in the vehicle of life. Our only job is to be in constant communication with this Higher Power.

As Jesus once conveyed to his disciples (I’m paraphrasing here): “Be in the world, but not of the world.”

Recently I was at a Marianne Williamson talk and she nailed it with this one statement: “People who meditate and pray can’t help but be kick-ass.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. The pleasure of experiencing your true self leads you to a direct experience with God. What could be more kick-ass than that? I mean, really, once you get more familiar with being in “the zone” (aka, who you are) and being grounded in it is more of a daily reality, your presence alone makes you shine like a divine inspiration. Now, that’s power. The highest power.

Fear of death goes right out the window, because you know exactly where you’re going. You no longer belong to the external world. The inner world becomes your true home. Even cooler yet, this no longer is just a theory you read in a book or heard in a talk (even by Marianne Williamson)... nope, this is a knowing. You’ve discovered how to be at home with yourself. Through meditation and prayer, you’ve come to know God by becoming one with Him/Her/It. You begin to trust in the Universe, instead of whatever “small self” you used to rely on for—well, everything.

"Through silence, I have become a dual citizen. Heaven and earth are both my home."

This, ladies and gentleman, as far as I’m concerned, is happiness. Happiness that is unshakable. Happiness that is without limits. Shit can be hitting the fan all around you and your core will stay as solid as a rock. (And by the way, I know of what I’m speaking here, in spades. Currently, even!)

As Pema Chodron has so elegantly written, "You are the sky. Everything else, is just the weather."

Be the sky, people; and the stars, the moon and the sun.
