Grace

Grace

On this long journey back to God, I bend into the moonlight of the sparkling spheres The night in its long stillness is full of Him. Beyond ravines, a raven rises, soaring where the stooping willows sleep, and darkness passes over little hills and rock beds, older and more worn than life. But there is something in the sweeping streams, the blackened windows of this world; I hear winds that run with knowledge, pitches of God's mysteries, I lean to understand.

Flames rage up inside me to fill the dark holes of my night. So come, Lord, unlock your blazoned light. Give words to me Your useless thorn that I might form Your shapeless Self. Place in my heart Your voice, so I might sing the swamps to life, the shadows back to sound, and whisper to the mountain flowers so they will grow limp with love.

Give me Your heart, Your eyes to see the road, moss-wound beyond this world. Wrap Yourself about my sea-tide soul, help me to the end- my eyes to bear this lonely path towards grace...
